I Need Some Fellow GM Advice
So I have this talented 2.5 of 3.5 26 yo RP Ricardo Ortiz. This is his 1st full year at the ML level but has pitched in September for me each of the last 2 seasons and is out of options. I like him and I think he can be good but he's stinking up the joint even in garbage time. I am in 1st place in Mid May and the rest of my pen is good.
I can not find a trade thats worth pursuing. I dont want to take on salary this season, at least until July. Best anyone has for a prospect is a 2 star C with Ml experience, who is also out of options. There are some good 4 star veterans available for him but i dont want to take on $15+ million. I know if i waive him or DFA him, he will be taken quickly as their is another 3 leagues in my universe and 1 league is new this year and needs good pitching. I trust my scout in Ortiz' ability and potential. I am deep in minor league ready RP. What would you do?

Have my scout sing Kokomo to me so I can relax and realize it's only May 15th and he's only faced like 50 hitters so there is zero reason to panic.

I would keep him for a few more weeks in case of injury.
Then possibly trade him for a veteran for the world series or a prospect on one of my weaker position long-term. |

Yeah man, it’s early in the season, you’re in first place. Give him until the trade deadline. More trades will open up for you by then.

I'd throw him into the fire as a stopper and give him 40 innings to figure things out or pack his bags

Speaking of trade deadlines.....In my default leagues ,even after the trade deadline passes, I get messages say these players are available for trade. I also get my own players demanding a trade in mid-August.

I agree with all of the foregoing. You have a classic "small sample size".
If he doesn't start pitching up to his perceived ability by the trade deadline, (i) take what you can get for him, and (ii) hire a new scout. |

Looks like a sample size issue. Although if he has major R/L splits it’s something that could be a long term problem.

I'd wait and see - the trade market really softens up the longer you wait and he's not really in the way at the moment. And who knows? He could have a great June and July.

He needs to get his feet wet. You're talking sporadic 20 innings across three seasons. He needs consistent innings. Depends on if you play out every game or not, but if not, set his role to middle relief/avoid high leverage, and let him pitch.
