What do you do with this guy?
You have a player:
-He's 24 and will turn 25 in the middle of next season -He's maxed out his potential which puts him at slightly below major league caliber -He had an above average but not amazing season in AAA last year. -You have a player at the same position with the same potential who is a year younger and ready to come up from AA. What do you do with this guy? I recently joined an online league and I'm having a difficult time deciding whether to just dump players who are "this guy" or whether to keep them in AAA for another year and hope TCR blesses them with major league abilities. Does anyone know whether someone who has their playing time decreased is also less likely to benefit from TCR? Or is TCR truly 100% random even if I just have my guy playing in a bench role? The league I'm in has 100% scouting accuracy and only 55 TCR which I feel greatly diminishes the value of keeping them around, but feel free to answer based on whatever settings you play on. |

What is his position?
What are your injury settings? Could he possibly have a smaller useful role? I may: - Keep him in AAA - Keep him in the 40-man roster - Keep him as a possible replacement - Use him in a different position (like... a SP to a bullpen role) If his value in a trade may be limited, it may not be best option to trade him. |

You have to figure out how he's most valuable to you As a back up at the majors? As a back up at AAA In a trade Allowing you to trade the other player who may bring a better return It's always unlikely that a player at their potential is going to TCR into something different. But, also, it does happen |

I would say it depends.
Can you train him for multiple positions as a utility guy? Does he already play a couple of positions? This is the kind of guy that I would think of a journeyman utility man. These can be useful backups even if not the best players. I have had some success retraining guys by locking positions. Sometimes it is because I have too many CFs, sometimes because a guy could be a 2B/SS or maybe even train him of 2B/3B/SS if his arm is good and his fielding is good. Sometimes it is just to have an average guy who can play all OF and maybe 1B. I tend to have a 1B/3B backup and a 2B/SS backup but no reason why you can't put a weak armed guy backing 1B/2B and a stronger arm backing up 3B/SS. If not trade or just let him become a free agent at the end of the season if he is eligible to be a minor league free agent that depends if you drafted out of HS or college.
