Hitting Coach Focus Type
I’m contemplating a switch with my hitting coach, but not positive it would be smart. I have been been between 1st and 3rd in runs scored all season (just beyond the all-star break), so nothing is broken at the moment, and it seems like every hitter is performing better than his ratings. However, my best hitter is a 21 year old phenom power hitter, and I also just traded for a 23 year old phenom power hitter. Both should be perennial MVP candidates (they literally are terrific at all 5 hitting tools, but are both 60 power with 75 power potential on the 20-80 scale). One of them (the 21 year old) is already 1st in the ROY race and knocking on the door of the MVP race as a rookie. The 23 year old is struggling, but he has only been on my team for 2 weeks, and should be better than the 21 year old based on the ratings.
So I’m considering switching to a Power Hitting focused hitting coach since they have a positive relationship with both hitters. Would this be smart since I’m so invested in these two young hitters, or dumb because I’m fixing something that isn’t broke? Last edited by brian_msbc; 12-11-2020 at 10:58 AM. |

My advice would be to stay the course with the current coach for now. Keep a close eye on not only the performance of these two but also their morale and relationships.
Obviously don't extend the current coach. Take a close look at their progression through the minors and try to correlate their performance with the hitting coaches that they had. Also lefty/right splits and lineup spots should be analyzed to try to set them up as much as possible for success. |
