When playing out games, how does the game know if you're using an opener?

I don't really care much for openers, but in my offline game, my AI manager uses my #5 starter in a follower role so I decided to give the opener a shot while playing out a game.

The opener threw about 15 pitches, and his stamina was barely affected. The AI was treating him like an actual starter, not an opener. I didn't know if my follower would be treated like a starter, so I let the opener a little bit longer than I planned (3+ innings).

Then, I brought in my follower. As expected, the AI treated him like a reliever: he was totally gassed around 40 pitches.

When simming games, the follower is able to throw a starters' number of pitches. How do you let the AI know you're using an opener while playing out games?

I think you have to set them up in the pitching rotation as well. So the games knows it is an opener/follower situations and has them pitch/fatigue correctly.

Also, OOTP should redo how pitchers fatigue

The starter had the follower role enabled, and the reliever I used had the opener as his secondary role.

I did manually insert the reliever into the starting role at the game start screen, though. (There are two relievers with opener as their secondary role, I just wanted to use the other one.)

If set up correctly, in your rotation, the starter will be in his slot (let’s say #5), and next to his name it will say (Fo). So: John Name (Fo).

Then, aside from just having the “opener role” assigned, your Opener will have (Op) next to his name. So: Jim Name (Op)

I was having this issue too I put in a 75 stamina pitcher in the 2nd or 3rd inning and he's exhausted after 40 pitches
