Some Mod novice/newb questions
So I’ve recently gotten into modding, and I have some questions, because I went a bit crazy before I really understood precisely what I was doing, and I just noticed that some of the really awesome unis/caps I’ve downloaded and applied show up in player portraits, but NOT in the 3D game representation.
First question: Assuming files are located in the appropriate folders (jersey/ball caps/logos), is there some additional step I need to take? Multiple forum searches are somewhat confusing to me on this point. Second question (a and b): A) I’m considering backing up my current save, and deleting and reinstalling the game, then reinstalling only the mods I currently use. Will that be problematic? Is that even necessary, or is my OCD getting the better of me? B) Does custom content have to reside in the game directory at all? I would think it does, for application of in game textures, but since those don’t seem to work “out of the box” anyway, maybe they don’t? Third question: ***IF*** you import custom files to the appropriate directory (let’s say jerseys), is there any problem with creating your OWN sub directory? Will this adversely affect application of textures/etc in game? And a follow up to this, how important are file naming conventions if you are manually assigning file paths anyway? I understand that they are important if you want the game to auto-detect mods, but if that isn’t important, do naming conventions matter? Any guidance on these questions would be greatly appreciated!

I'll try to help.
A) starting over may be the best option. Un-license the game. Then reinstall. Then put your save back in the saved_games folder. B) I think you can have custom content on any hard drive. Don't know about cloud storage. Best to keep jerseys and caps in your save folder, this way the files will pertain to just your league. Using the folders in the DATA folder will make the jerseys, logos and caps global so multiple leagues will use the content. But if you don't follow the naming conventions then this doesn't apply. 3) you can make sub folders as long as you understand how to. Many PC users don't. You have to browse to those folders to use the custom content. 4) file naming convention is mainly used to automate year or color changes and selection. Most PC users want to keep it simple. |
