TotalMinors Release Set For April 20: ReadMe Attached

Hey all,

TotalMinors Opening Day will be officially released Sunday, April 20, either early in the morning or late that night (I'll be out most of the day). I will have the file on my site at www.rosterdevelopmentgroup.com, and will also be uploading it to BaseballSimCentral.com. I just have a couple of additions to make over the next couple of days, but they will easily be done by Sunday.

I am attaching the ReadMe file as it stands now so you have an idea of what all is in the set. It gets a little bit into my ratings (I may add more examples for detail, I just like giving people an idea of how I come up with this stuff). Take a look and if there's anything else you feel I should cover, let me know.

Those who have generously donated money for my work, as well as those who have helped with various aspects of the file, will get a preview copy late tonight at some point. Thank you all SO much.

I just broke this from the v 1.1 thread because it's the official announcement (wow, that sounds more arrogant than intended ) of the release, and v 1.1 is kind of obsolete at this point in comparison.

http://www.rosterdevelopmentgroup.co...day/index.html

If you go to that link you can check out parts of the file as it's a recent upload. Like I said, still a couple of touch-ups, but you'll see the lineups are accurate, the amateur draft guys are there (high school guys need to be adjusted a little bit, will be done tonight), the full rosters...just some stuff to take a peek at.

Thanks again guys for the continued support. I hope this file is what you expected. I'm very pleased with how it has turned out.

Take care,

GH

Great job so far! Here are the most recent transactions. You may have to do some minor (no pun intended) adjustments.

Site down?

GForce -- I'm trying to get to your site to make a donation (I REALLY want a preview copy tonight but I'm unable to get to your site. I keep getting the "server unavilable" page.

a couple of things:

a) Just to be clear, this isn't a project with Rolen. He worked with me last year, but this year the project is my own. He contributed the original schedule (since updated) and manager/coach names and minor league team names for TotalMinors. The players and ratings are all my work.
b) I'm not updating transactions to now. The set is as of opening day.

Hmmm...I was on it two minutes ago. I'll see what's going on, because it is taking a long time to load up right now.

Thanks. I figured he was an interesting case, a) because he's a big prospect, and b) because my assessment doesn't exactly measure with scouts. I think it's important for guys to know how I came up with these ratings, especially as much as I mentioned my spreadsheets. If I say how I went about it, admit my biases and thought process, then guys who may disagree with that can say "GForce doesn't like guys who do this, my guy does this but I think he'll be ok" and adjust accordingly. It also serves to acknowledge that, although my sheets generally work out very well, they are by no means perfect (as I mentioned on this board with guys like Brandon Larson and Ryan Ludwick who the sheets love and just aren't THAT good).

Sorry about that, GForce, I don't blame you, you've done a stellar job and probably tons of work.

With all the work this requires, I think Geforce22's rosters should require purchase. I'll be definately making a donation soon, Geforce, thanks.

thanks, Crusher, but I would never consider making them for sale only. If guys think it's worth donating, they do. If not, that's fine too. Lots of other guys do great third party stuff also. I'm all for anyone going the donation route, but I think flat-out charging is a bit of a reach.
Appreciate the support.

Any thought to setting up some method other than Paypal for donations? I will never, EVER use Paypal again for anything.

About a year and half ago I used Paypal for the first (and only) time. Ordered something from a Paypal Verified vendor using my credit card. Paypal took my $1000 off my credit card. Then the bs began. After I didn't get my product by the promised time I contacted the vendor, who informs me Paypal never credited his account my $1000. So I follow Paypal's procedures to question it. Basically you send them an e-mail then wait 30 days to get a nonresponsive message back.

Long story short, after three months and no straight answers from Paypal I contacted my credit card company with full documentation of the fiasco (including Paypal's nonresponsive and insulting replies) and had the charge reversed.

Then I get an e-mail from Paypal telling me that they will not dispute the chargeback because they have no basis to do so, but since I didn't resolve the dispute internally with them they were freezing my Paypal account unless I send them $1000.

Well f**k them. I can't remember ever being more angry. I know a LOT of people use Paypal without incident, and the company was bought out by somebody (was it Yahoo?) last year, but count me out. I even have a magazine article around here somewhere about this kind of thing happening to other people, and you can find websites devoted to the topic.

Uh uh. No Paypal for me.

[edit] I don't want to turn this into a Paypal thread, so I'm asking if others have had similar problems they want to discuss we can take that to OT. Here the topic of donations came up, and I think people ought to donate but deserve to be warned to exercise a little caution if they're going to register with and use Paypal.

After reading the readme, I just made a Paypal contribution! I had no idea you were going to have so much depth, GF! The great thing about these rosters is that they are done the same way I would, but I didn't spend so many hours on them.

In fact, my wife was reading the readme that I printed, because she's always curious about the "weird baseball game" I play. She said it sounded like me talking at a baseball game! And she said I ought to send a donation. That's the first time I've ever been ENCOURAGED to spend money on a game!

On another note, wifey says "I hope he's spending enough time with the new baby."
