From Cy Young, To Sigh Hum
I noticed about halfway through the season that Syndergaard had become a groundballer instead of power pitcher. He hasnt been injured since I acquired him and it's not like his 2020 injury affected him for the next few years. He went from my 4.5* ace, cy young winning, silver slugger, all star.... to a 2.5* groundballer who the ratings tell me is now a "borderline starter"........
Is this the development model screwing me because he's thrown too many fastballs? (also, in the manual the heading for player model says "injuries, fatigue and aging, but doesnt mention this phenomenon) |

Yes, it's called aging, and it's an extremely common and normal occurrence. Your player is at the age when many pitchers have already reached their prime, and they begin a steady decline.
Here's a good random example. Take a look at what happened as Walt Terrell reached his late-20s and then early 30s. His ERA and HR9 increased, his SO9 decreased significantly, and while he still had a couple of good seasons, he was never quite the same pitcher as he was at age 27. https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...errewa01.shtml Last edited by Charlie Hough; 11-15-2020 at 10:51 PM. |

Gooden, Guidry, Willis, Saberhagen, Valenzuela, Harvey, Hershiser just off the top of my head...these guys all looked like future Hall of Famers, but all flamed out at a relatively young age.
