sims
when i manage a game most of the time i can pull out a win. I'm in first place and have won 8 in A row but if i change it and just handle the GM duties and sim my team will onlt win30-40% of the time...i'm wondering if the game will be more challenging or if i just made some great trades...thoughts?

When I first started playing - I actually tracked this for a little while (record when I actively managed vs having the computer/manager manage) - and like you, I had a significantly better record when I managed vs overall.
However, after a larger sample size/more years, I noticed that this evened out. I think that a couple of things could be affecting your results/giving you that perception: 1) Sample Size (have you tracked results and if so, how many) 2) Starting pitchers - are you maybe managing the games when the ace or top starters are due up in the rotation vs the lower end guys? 3) Lineup: Similar to above - when you manage, are you consistently using the 'usual' starting lineup, and leaving the computer manager to sub in the bench guys for starts? |

When I play as the manager, I feel that I am able to manage my bullpen better than the AI - rotate my relievers so the better ones don't get over used.

I actually find it to be the exact opposite. When I sim as the GM, my team wins 60-70% of the time. When I hands-on manage the game, I only win 20-30% of the time.
When I manage the game, hitter-by-hitter, pitcher-by-pitcher, my best hitters can't hit a lick, and my ace-pitchers uncharacteristically give up HR's like mints in a candy jar. I don't claim to be a great manager, but it does seem odd that an ace pitcher only seems to give up multi-HR's in games that are human controlled. And offenses tend to shut down only in games that are human controlled. |
