Displayed Potential Ratings vs Editor

I'm not sure if this touches upon an earlier thread (about Bobby Thompson, I believe), but I noticed that in my end-of-season Live Start J.D. Martinez current and potential batting ratings were identical and reflected his difficulties at the plate this year. However, his potential batting ratings in the editor were still quite good, which would be a way of acknowledging his track record before this season and his upside possibilities going forward (as compared to his 2020 performance). I would appreciate any help answering the following two questions:

1) Do the editor's potential ratings have any impact in the cases like Martinez's?
2) If yes, then why aren't the editor's potential ratings displayed in the player profile for Martinez (and other veterans)?
