He announced this and explained that he will still be making the game here:
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=321116

Also, he created a Q&A thread if you want to ask him questions or read through some that others have already asked here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=321117

Congrats to the guys, this was inevitable, but it’s the beginning of the end, no matter how they try to spin it. Was great while it lasted

If it wasn't for Markus and Andreas, I would still be playing some video baseball game and, while appreciating the breathtaking graphics would nevertheless be shaking my head at the atrocious stats and lack of baseball management realism. I'm glad to see them get a payday out of this, finally.

Well, this dovetails with a decision that I have been trying to make; that is, to have OOTPB21 be it, at least for now. I like the game as it is and I am tired of constantly updating it while at the same time seeing my leagues go by the wayside for various reasons, usually for fresh starts.

All of that is on me, though, and not on the game or its developers. Take Markus at his word because he has earned credibility over the years: "Almost everything will remain as it has been in the past, and we now have a strong partner who will support our plans for the future."

Here is to OOTPB, a truly remarkable accomplishment.

Thanks for making me aware of this. Sad news indeed. Looks like this game is going to go more mobile and more micro transaction. You’ve given you’re baby to another company and you have no more say in what you do. I thank you for the games you’ve made and have enjoyed all of them 100%. Good luck to your futures.

Don't think of this as a bad thing...it could be a huge benefit to us. It certainly will be a big payday for the Development Team, and for all they've given us over the years I won't begrudge them this. Folks need to remember, this is a business.

What was it Joe McCarthy said? "You have to improve your club [even] if it means letting your own brother go." Well, the brother's been let go. Let's all congratulate Markus et al and hope the club improves rather than doomsaying.

If I could jump as well as some people jump to conclusions, I'd be in the NBA right now.

I see this as a win-win. They get more money and a bigger partner to invest in more things and we get a better product. Of course you can't expect stuff to stay the same but who says it can't change for the better?

Tbh this is the only game I buy every year and have been doing so since 15. I don't even buy Football Manager every year and I'm a bigger soccer fan than a baseball fan.

I'm wondering how this will affect the Mods in the future. Will stadiums and parks along with uni's and logos still be made? What will become of the facegens?

Maybe this will give Markus even more time to just concentrate on the game or better yet more games. One can hope.
Even if Markus did not sell for another 20 years, eventually he deserves to retire and enjoy life. Hopefully that will be many many years from now but no one lives forever except maybe Keith Richards.
It would be nice to know that the company and the game he put a lot of time and effort into would keep going if he wished.

I only hope Markus that this is truly what you want.
OOTP must continue to be the BEST baseball sim on the market.

In the short term this will be great for us. More money so more features, KBO license and history, chance at possible Nippon license and history. In the long term term not so much. Maybe if it was bought by a company not known of microtransactions and terrible if even any at all CS, this will not end well.

If we thought the focus on PT was bad now it's going to get a lot worse and likely soon be the main focus. Oh well it was fun while it lasted and Markus deserves to cash out. It's been a great run while it lasted.

This year can't end soon enough

It won't affect them at all, except that maybe if all goes well we'll be able to officially include some more KBO related stuff with the game.

We see this with perfect team. I don't see how the base game could go micro transactions but I could be wrong on that.

20 years is a long time to devote to one game. Been playing since the first OOTP CD came in the mail around 2000. It takes real devotion to keep 20 years on one project. I honestly think that the game is about all it be with the current engine. You can add some bells and whistles and maybe fix a few small things but there are limits to the base engine. In many ways the bones of the game are what they were 20 years ago. Markus and Andreas added a lot to that base game they started with. There have been failed ideas like the old ST sliders for players on what you want to work and they can decline in hitting if they learn a new position but they went away in the next version.

Not sure about that. There was a time they teamed with SI, I don't know if SI had ownership stake. The game didn't become FM though. There did seem to be some collaboration with SI that brought in some FM type features. It certainly didn't ruin the game. IIRC, that was pretty short lived.

100% stake? Yeah, im not getting my hopes up... Look at their current game lineup, only 2 sports games which, while are MLB games, are the arcade-y mobile type.

I have no reason to believe they have any knowledge whatsoever about realistic baseball sims. Maybe they do let Markus and co. keep control over the games development for now, but once they retire and Com2Us really takes over, I feel like we'll be looking for a new game.

Regardless, thanks for 20 years.
