Unrealistic owner expectations....

Obviously, you are playing as Boston, but I do have a favor to ask. You'll probably hate this new team called the Yankees in the future, but since you had such clairvoyance about this Cy Young fella, do you think you could talk to the Yankees 1st baseman, Lou Gehrig, around 1926 or 1927? Just convince him to go see a doctor. In fact, insist that he do so...please. Thank you.

Would not have helped. He didn't display any symptoms until 1938 and wasn't diagnosed until 1939. Even today, most ALS patients do not last past age 20, so Gehrig already was an outlier.

Thought I'd share my Owner's flawless logic

At least he gives me a good chuckle.

Oh, he's also the league's only Penny Pincher. Every other team has at least 30mil cash to spend. I have less than 10mil.

This is sort of like Don Mattingly and his side burns back in the day. Mattingly was the face of the Yankees and the Yankees have that facial hair policy. Mattingly's burns got a little out of control and instead of being on the back page of the local papers, it became national news. Would George dump Mattingly if he did not trim his burns?
Or the time George hired a PI to stalk Dave Winfield?
It is harder to think about this today but back before instant media, things would go on for months and without free agency a player might be cut because he looked at the owner's trophy wife the wrong way or forgot to pet the owner's dog.

The best one I ever read about was Pirate owner Barney Dreyfuss ordered HOF OF Paul Waner to quit drinking then ordering him to start drinking again when his batting average dipped 30 points.

Also similar is how SF management tried to control Pablo Sandoval's eating habits, Barry Zito playing his guitar and Tim Lincecum smoking marijuana.

That's hilarious. I never knew about that...

There have certainly been a fair number of colorful MLB team owners. Marge Schott, anyone?

It's incredible how long she was able to get away with her vile behavior before the league started doing something about it.
