What determines what pitch type is thrown in game
I think I recall reading that an at-bat event in and of itself is really what gets determined and the individual pitches shown are sort of cosmetic in nature or something along those lines.
Sometimes I'll see a batter in a 1-2 count and a pitcher throws a 30 grade pitch type as opposed to his 70 high end pitch and it gets hit out or hung or something and I'm curious if it was more like "he's hitting a HR in this totality of a situation and here's a crappy pitch to signify the result of this event" or if like catcher rating has anything to do with pitcher v batter success ie) game calling, etc.
I do find it cool that sometimes I can definitely see a hung breaking ball as the animation is occurring and much like in real life before the ball is struck utter an "uh oh" while it's happening.
