Type B Free Agents

This is my understanding of the old comp system:
1) If you sign a type A free agent, their old team gets your 1st rounder (or 2nd rounder if you're in the front of the draft). Their old teams also gets an extra comp pick between rounds (kinda from thin air).
2) If you sign a type B free agent, their old team gets a comp pick between rounds. But it doesn't come from the team that signed the player (from thin air like above).

I'm looking at Type B free agents and OOTP is telling me "signing this player may result in the loss of a draft pick."

Is that right? If yes, what are the details on that? 1st rounder, 40th rounder, other?

If I recall, a Type B costs you a 2nd round pick, but I think it's similar to how Type A works, old teams gets a 2nd rounder and new team loses a 2nd rounder.

You are partially correct.....a Type B free agent only gives the old team a pick after the 2nd round, the signing team does not lose a pick. They only lose a pick if the player is a Type A.

Quote:
Teams that lost a Type A free agent to whom they had offered arbitration received the top draft pick from the team that signed the free agent, plus a supplemental draft pick in the upcoming draft as compensation. Teams losing Type B free agents to whom they had offered arbitration received only a supplemental pick as compensation.
