Are popularity, morale, injury proneness randomly assigned each time you fire up a game?
Is any of it based on any reality?

All are part of the player attributes but in your league set up you can turn off the effects and change the injury frequency. I would think the initial MLB roster is based on reality but it is subjective. After a while these ratings change. Don't play a star and he won't be very happy.
