Help with HS/CO field

Love the new HS/CO Column, but I'm having trouble figuring out how the game determines if a player is a college senior/junior/sophomore/freshman. I swap players between college teams using the 'export rosters' and 'import rosters' functions, but after the switch, the players no longer have a designation in the HS/CO column. All of the rest of their information appears to transfer correctly.

There doesn't seem to be a field in any of the exportable data that designates a college player's freshman/sophomore/junior/senior status. Any idea what parameters the game uses to determine HS/CO status?
