How important is defensive catcher ratings?
Does that really help your pitching staff? I've had a JT Realmuto(99) live card that hasn't hit a lick for a bunch of years. I was thinking about "upgrading" my offense from catcher by getting a Piazza card(96). Before I do, I just wanted to check to see if switching it would make my pitching staff go down. (they really haven't been very good anyway)

- rookie level
- 5+ seasons - same catcher duo - same pitching staff (power pitchers) - same lineup - same strategy settings R162 = runs allowed per 162 games (1458 innings) |

More relevant is the idea that nobody anywhere is using a catcher with defense that low. If you put Frank Thomas at 3B or even SE Ted at 1B I bet they'd be awful there, but that's not a typical usage and isn't a great way to assess defense there. More frequently you're looking at the difference between like 50 and 70ish CAbil/CArm when talking about poor defense (looking at you, King Kelly and SE Piazza).

I would be interested, too, in the difference between 50/70 or 60/80 rated catchers. I think the extremes have been covered.
