Spring training player usage AI?

I am doing HX challenge and 3rd week of spring training 1954.
While it appears teams are using 60 man rosters, i see little usage of minor any people other than the expected starters.

It is spring training...why has Don Mossi pitched in every game so far as reliever? Shouldn't teams be experimented with players and getting them experience?

Also it was not clear how to set up my team (cubs) 60 man roster...i just highlighted everyone in AAA and dragged them to main roster (??)
I then had to have AI set up minor league system because there was no one in AAA. That can be the way i am supposed to do it...'the continue' button didn't advise what to do

I manage games during the season (unless things are really terrible), but in ST I set the starting lineups, sim to the 3rd inning or so, then sub in whoever else I want to play and sim the rest of the game. Doesn't help the AI of course, I agree with your point.

I don't think I understand your question about the minors, but I haven't played a historical setup in a long time. I don't know why you care about the AAA lineup in ST, they're idle unless something is off with your schedule. I always set minors to start a week or more after Opening Day.

As to choosing, I usually put everyone on the 40 man, most of who's left in AAA after that except for the age 35+ roster fillers, and anyone lower down that I hope to be good someday. I don't think there's any downside to playing kids in ST and if you are trying to teach new positions it's sped up if you use ST for it.

As I allowed the AI to control my team during spring training, I just had my best hitter sustain a minor DTD injury with a little more than a week to go until opening day. So I was thinking that this guy should probably sit out the rest of spring training, but the AI still puts him in the starting lineup for every game during the last week of the preseason. This is just one small example, but I do agree the AI's player usage during spring training needs to be looked at.

You setup your spring training however you like it. It usually the entire healthy 40 man roster plus whoever you give a non 40 man invite too. I might try out a bunch of my super young guys. A and Rookie guys etc

I had the same problem, I just manage them every couple games and shuffle the lineup

I hate 7 day lineups so much I always forget the option, but I guess they could be pretty useful in ST so you have to fiddle with the lineup only once per week.

Just DON'T FORGET TO TURN IT OFF again at the end of ST!

I agree, I would like to see the ST AI looked at. I manage all my teams games, even in Spring Training, so my players get used sparingly, but I have always hated seeing teams i am playing over using their players in Spring training. I would love to see this looked at and improved.
