When you put yourself in the game...

In your solo leagues, when you create a player or edit a player to put yourself in the game, what position do you play?

I made myself a catcher, but I never made it to the big leagues because I sucked. On a better note, I put a friend of mine in and he ended up on the all-time batting average chart.

If you play baseball yourself, most likely the position you play in real life. If you don't, probably the position you think your best at, or SP (that's just a hunch). Personally, I made myself a 2b, with some ability at SS.

Even though I rarely play it, I put myself at SS because that is where I like to play best.

2B

Ryne Sandberg was my favorite player of all time, and that was the position I played during my whole "playing career."

I would give myself an E at 3B, too, but I think that would be stretching it, since I played third for not even all of one all-star practice one season. Hated it, and moved back over to second later during that night's practice.

I give myself ratings for everything except C and 1B. I'm a pretty good pitcher, and an above average hitter. I give myself A ratings in the outfield with percentages in the nine ninties, because I'm fast, and a pretty good fielder. In the infield, I give myself C and B ratings, but bad defensive % (like .950), because I pretty much suck in the infield. I'm good in the outfield, though. But like twitty90 said, I give myself ratings that I play in real life, because I play pretty much everything - I'm just not very good at everything. And, your hunch was correct. What the hell is the point at making yourelf a reliever? Closer or starter - at least that's where the money is if you're any good. Besides, I start in real life anyway.

I didn't play sports in junior high school or high school because the coaches always thought I was too skinny.

I went to a high school that was very sports oriented, so it was pretty tough.

I was a starter for the chess team, though!

In OOTP I'm a starting pitcher.

LF, baby. Don't you even think about testing my arm...not a good idea.

Not gonna lead the league in batting average, not gonna lead in homers. But a #2 or #3 hitter, I'm capable of that. I'll steal ya some bases, setup our big hitters for the RBIs.

Put me in, coach...I'm ready to play.

Catcher...just like I was from age 5 to my cut in the Mets Florida Instructional League...

I have no power, so I rarely start, although one time I did and played 130 games...hit .330 with 88 walks 35 K's and 29 HBP

(That was one of my 'moves', get in close and take one in the back)

I was defensive and could call a damn good game, but I was a spray hitter that was great at bunting...not something one looks at for a Catcher nowadays or in OOTP...so of the 3 times I created myself, 2x I retired in AA, hitting about .308 for my (minor league) career. The othe rtime I had the year above but was replaced by a FA fictional catcher who hit .240 but slugged 30 dingers. He was also a D range catcher with a D arm
grrrrrrr

I finished my 5 year major league career with about 800 Abs

Maybe I should create myself with good in HRs???

CF, tons of speed and range, but no power and no arm. Good average and eye.

I'm a speedy third baseman who can't hit worth a lick, has a good arm, but can't seem to find the first baseman

I'll usually give me defensive ratings at all infield positions.

1B: B range, around a .990
2B: C range, around a .975
3B: E range, around a .960
SS: A range, around a .993

My primary position is 1B though. Sometimes I'll mix it up and give me good power but not a lot of contact strength, or vice versa. I always have average or good ability in hitting doubles, and good talent in getting walks. I always give myself a poor in avoiding strikeouts though.

I'm just wondering for the people who give themselves realistic ratings and aren't all stars. Do you ever cut yourself from your roster?

I created myself as a LF, but I also gave myself a low rating at 2B. Not much power, but good contact hitter who rarely strikesout. Walks regularly but not often. Avereage speed. Good arm and pretty good range....

That's how I evaluated myself from my High School days. By my SR year, I gave up on baseball and played Soccer. Smart move back then (State Champs that year and I started) but do I miss "Those Glory Days!"

Now I relive them playing Softball locally...
