Season 14 - Turn around...
With two in Iron (Longview, Stephanie's) and one in Stone (Nacogdoches), we will have to see if this season is one of turn-arounds or further regression. Hopefully plucking a few out of the Auction House instead of buying packs and hoping for a few good draws will be to the benefit.
Best of luck to all!!

My teams started a combined 1-6, so maybe I just shouldn't log in for a week...

I am now in the habit of not looking at my team until Monday evening so that there are at least a couple of weeks worth of games. If I was a stronger man, I would wait until Tuesday morning.

Despite some key additions made to both teams, they are both slow out of the gate this week.
Over in Silver .259, the Green Dragons (currently 4-7): Added: 3B - HH 1961 Ken Boyer (93) RF - HH 1969 Pete Rose (83) CF - HAS 1955 Mickey Mantle (93) 1B - SE 1932 Lou Gehrig (95) Dropped: RF/LF/2B/3B - LIVE Jeff McNeil (83) 2B - HH 2017 Jose Altuve (86) RF/CF - LIVE George Springer (87) 1B/3B - HL PEAK 1970 Tony Perez (92) Over in Stone .188, the DBT Heathens (currently 4-7): Added: RF - LIVE Jeff McNeil (83) LF - LIVE Michael Conforto (83) 3B - SE 2003 Mike Lowell (86) C - LIVE Mike Zunino (69) RP - SS 1964 Don Larsen (77) Dropped: RF - HAS 1942 Tom Henrich (69) LF - SS 1957 Sandy Amoros (68) RP - OHW 2014 Kyle Crockett (64) 2B - OHW 2011 Jemile Weeks (60) C - LIVE Michael Perez (58) Seemingly all improvements, but for the most part they have not panned out yet. It's a long season, but I think some difficult decisions regarding the pitching staffs for both teams are the next thing to be addressed.

Definitely a turn around season for me, Bay City Boomers were a playoff team in Diamond last year, this year they have started 10-17 but the division is pretty strong (and also has Huntley Red Raiders) Maddux has started 1-4 with a 6.94 era and we have multiple guys hitting sub 200.
Paragon City Heroes on the back of being promoted back to diamond have started 15-11 due mainly to the offence, the starting pitching has been good, the bullpen dire. Mickey Mantle has hit .352 with 5 HR. Edd Roush is leading the league in hitting and rbi despite being a vsR platoon San Angeles and Lowdown are both circling around .500

Ha ha ha....I was thinking this when I wrote the tagline. Now, to you...Bonnie Tyler or Nikki French?
Quote:
Speaking of which... Longview Woodchucks in Iron .192 are 17-9, top of the NC East with a four game lead and 4th best in the league. My pitching has greatly improved, leading the National Conference and Yordan Alvarez is leading the batters with 8 HRs and a .337 average. Nacogdoches Jacks are in Stone .202, 16-10, in 3rd place in AC West, 2.5 games out and holding an early lead for the second wildcard spot. Already have had a Power Inning for 1,000 PP, although looking at that game, all the offense came in one inning and was completely shut out the other eight (BUT we won the game). Marcus Semien leads with a .305 average. Pitching is a little better, but not much. Stargell is still wiffing a little too much for my taste, 22 K in 81 PA. Stephanie's Neffin-neffs are in Iron .169, 17-10, tops in both AC East and the league with a 2.5 game division lead. My number 9 hitter, Luke Appling, leads with a .308 average. Carl Mays, my 23-game loser last season, is proving to be a much better reliever than a starter....so far clear on the ERA, his BABIP and WHIP down almost 2/3rds and his K/9 rate more than doubled. I think we will keep him there. So, the turnaround has started. Let's see if it will continue.

Press Release:
After 3 Championships in 9 seasons the Bay City Boomers are rebranding as the 21st Century Fusion. As implied by the name only 21st century will be used (including Future Legends, any card with a 2000s or 2010s theme or Live cards) Full transition hasn't taken place yet but we are getting there, what could possibly go wrong with 2 100 rated SPs at the top of the rotation ![]() ![]()

Going into Wednesday
Longview Woodchucks are 31-23, 1.5 games in front. Nacogdoches Jacks are 32-21, tied for the division lead. Stephanie's Neffin-neff are also 31-23, 2 games in front. Maybe this will be the turn-around season after all.

Fighting Frogs checking in from D352 this week.
We've stalled out in our quest to make PL. ![]() Our best opportunity was actually on the eve of the 1st week of PL when we lost in the Diamond league series (as an underdog) in 6 games. Since then, we've been dumped in the DS against a team 18 games worse than us in the regular season; we lost in the DS in 4 games to a team of roughly equivalent strength; and last week we made it thru the DS against a superior team only to get dumped in 5 games in the Sub-League series by a team 14 games worse in the regular season. And so it goes... This week the Frogs are sitting at 46-34 and with a scant 0.5 game lead over the powerful Wayzata Trojans. Frog pitching has been so bad...how bad? So bad that I cheered when we rose from last in the conference in runs allowed to 13th. Ok, so I'm doing some positional training, but is that so wrong? It's still been carnage above and beyond. 100 Maddux with a 4.79 ERA and 100 Paige banished to the bullpen with a 6.59 ERA. 100 Nolan Ryan has been my most successful RP with a 4.72 ERA. He could pop an Advil and go another 9 innings, I'm sure. So, how on Earth are we over .500 with this crackpot pitching staff? The offense is doing what it usually does. And what it usually does is place 1st, or nearly so, in the conference in runs scored. SE Yogi Berra leads the club with 2.0 WAR (10 HR 27 RBI .316/.377/.563) and is joined in the 10+ HR club by SE George Sisler (12 HR 65 RBI .290/.346/.502). In this type of Friends'-List-thingie-league that is D352, there aren't too many off days. So, I don't foresee these Frogs going on much of a heater. Nope. We'll just have to hope the training levels off, the pitching picks up, we grind closer to 100 wins, and finally for the love of God do something worthwhile in the 'yoffs.

Paragon City Heroes have been as many as 7 games over .500 but finished the sim at 42-40. Don Drysdale has been my pitching star 8-6 3.59 era and threw a one hitter which was one hit away froma perfect game in his last start. The new SE Mickey Mantle is 1st on the team in WAR (2.2) and 2nd in OPS (.849). Honus Wagner hitting 12 HR and driving in 46 runs is an unexpected boost to the offence.
the auction House at the minute seems like everyone is trying to flip historical cards, cards that get listed at reasonable prices end up getting relisted at far less reasonable prices. I'm just holding off listing or buying anything until after the supposed extravaganza tonight

Mets have now finally dumped Pete Alonso, batting .174 once more this year. For a guy that hit a ****ing 53 homers last year, he's scandalously unplayable in this game...
Sold some live Dodgers cards overnight that I once bought in a rush of stupidity, and pooled stuff together to get SE Ralph Kiner on board for 7k. He'll mainly DH, but the Mets' lineup is certainly getting denser. And right now, the Metsies have only four "guest" players; besides Kiner they're all relievers. And then again, Kiner should count as a Met on the merits of decades of broadcasting for the Mets. Well, as usual in my OOTP endeavours... It all sounds good in my head!

How's your Magadan doing?
I remember you mentioning this guy a while back. He's another in a similar-ish mould.

Haven't had Magadan for long, but he is servicable as leadoff man in Bronze, and OBP is something this roster is always looking for...
Tiernan was on my shortlist a while back, but only Furillo was available when I had the funds - not that I have any regrets. Carl's fine. Tiernan is one of those rather rare cards that I don't see often on the market, which is why I went for Kiner this time. What the Metsies need now is a steady starting pitcher (beyond Matlack and Burleigh, it's a mess...), and always, always relievers. Second base is also an option to upgrade. Squirrel is hitting surprisingly well (.292/.335/.439 in 1,015 Bronze games), but his 51 D is ... sheesh. Also, Mets seven games ahead in the division. Pretty sure they're gonna blow it again.
