Just lost 250-5
Unbelievable! I have just lost 250-5 in a game.
I was looking around the leagues in the game, and started playing a simulation season in spanish league. And against the same team i lost 3-65 in preseason, 8-130 in regular season and 5-250 in play offs, against the same team. My team was Marlins and lost to Rivas. But the most amazing performance was a pitcher throwing 1248 pitches ! ![]() pictures: https://imgur.com/X9kMY7h https://imgur.com/oJC7Xpl |

Looks like you don't have enough pitchers on your roster.

Well, at least you made the playoffs!
How, would be my first question. Seriously though, I might have to check other league results more closely. I always include the entire universe in my MLB start ups but if results like this are occurring then I might have to re-visit that approach. To me, and only on the surface without any further detail, this might be a genuine reason for saying the game is "BROKEN'. |

Well, of course. They left Torrealba in too long. I would have yanked him after the 191st run, but I guess we all have our managerial styles.

Are you sure that you haven't modified something in the standard quickstart? Tenerife looks like a pretty good team. It has enough pitchers for its weekends only schedule, and Torrealba, while no superstar, is a decent pitcher.

This game broke the winning expectancy chart. I'd like to know what the play marked "4" on the chart was. Wild guess - it was the run that gave them a 128-run lead?

No, I agree, something is whacked. In the low minors in an online league we are seeing crazy results as well. Not 250-5 crazy but 83-6 and a pitcher allowing 746 hits in 140 IP with a 40.12 ERA for the season.

![]() And 130 walks and 9 K's? I wonder why he only hit one batter as wild as he was

Well, am not boasting or anything but it's just experience. When I was starting out I'd often let a starter go ~200 runs, 800 pi some innings. But you learn. Mentoring helps.

I've always admired guys who are determined to finish what they start.
I didn't think that mindset existed at all anymore. This guy is a real bulldog. Going to have to try and acquire him in my new White Sox save. |

Yes but that same bulldog attitude is what can cause the confusion! I'd get guys on the mound with 'workhorse' personalities and I'd be thinking 'ok, now this guy has allowed 81 runs since he's thrown his last strike, what do I do...? Do I just let him work through it?'

Lol! I think I would have picked Torrealba to be the "Player of the Game" just because he "took one for the team!"

Agreed. These decisions are never easy. I think in the situation you describe, I'd take a couple other factors into consideration aside from the 81 runs. Obviously, pitch count is important. If it's nearing 1,000, I'd have to consider whether nor not there is a better option in my BP or on my bench. You already touched on that earlier. But even importantly, I think, is how hard he's had to work in yielding the 81 runs. I mean, has it just been a grind from the get go or has he had a couple of relatively easy innings mixed in....say 10 runs or less allowed? |

Anyone know the answer definitively?
So I could trade for Torrealba, who has really captured my imagination, in my latest save.
I'm pretty sure I could get him for a relative pittance in return - maybe Carson Fullmer (lol) - but I also see he has a pro contract, earning $2,500 per year. As well, please note that he has "cleared waivers". So my question is this: If I trade for him, will I have to give him an MLB entry level salary and add him to the 40-man roster? Or, since he has cleared waivers, can I just pay him the balance of his $2,500 salary and put him in the minors, without wasting.....er, using....a 40-man roster spot? I'd really like to have him in my system because I think his stick-to-itiveness and perseverance would serve as a great role model for some of our younger pitchers. But I certainly don't want to waste.....er, use....a 40-man roster spot on him and I'm sure Jerry Reinsdorf - as generous as he is - would prefer I not pay him 565K. Everything has it's price and so does Torrealba, as much as I might admire him. |

Come on guys, you don't give Torrealba the credit he deserves
![]() This guy threw 530 strikes in less than 5 innings ... okay, he missed the strike zone here and there, but I'm sure that that record will stand for quite some time I mean, throwing strikes ... isn't that what pitching is all about?

How many errors were there?
I agree with the lack of pitching depth but i am seeing fielders drop the ball in the same place play after play. Which is results in 10 or 12 runs a in an inning. Three or four times and you got got 40 runs already. This is from 1871 when there were some high scoring games and lots of errors but sometimes it seems like the game makes a fielder worse than they actually were. Don't wanna play everything on the pitcher. |

Trade Torrealba?? Seriously? IRL, that guy'd be a gold mine. Talk about filling seats. I would take out full page ads in local newspapers for his next game. Heck, I wouldn't even rest him. Just put him in night after night. You'd be in SI, Time, Late Night. Presidential hopefuls would be lining up for pictures and autographs.
But, in OOTP.. I don't know. Me, I'd take over managing lineups and games, see how he did. The guy has the heart of a Clydesdale.

But see, that's the thing. My experience once a RP eclipses 1000 pi something happens. Maybe it's mental, confidence perhaps? I don't know. It takes an eye to spot it, but he just isn't the same. Well, the fast ball starts to hang a bit. Basically, he thinks he has to strike out every batter, like he's actually terrified of the batter making contact. Sure, you go to the mound to try to get him to calm down. Oh, and they'll complain when I ask for the ball. 'C'mon skip, hell I got another 200, 300 in me, I swear.' Imagine, guy's been throwing for over 17 hours straight, he wants to throw for another 5 or 6. Gotta be firm though. 'Hit the showers kid', I say, 'there's always tomorrow.'
