University of Florida college not represented

The University of Florida is not properly listed in the game. Prior fictional players who went to Florida are currently listed as having gone to Florida A&M.

In exploring the schools page, apparently there are two Florida Atlantics, which could have caused the minor bug.

South Carolina and LSU are also duplicated. Ole Miss, Mississippi State University, and Texas A&M (in College Station) are not included.

I don't believe this is an issue with the default schools db.

It sounds like something may've gotten corrupted in your save. A re-import of the world db might fix things. Or might not, but is at least worth a shot.

Hey Lukas, that may be true and I can give that a shot. What elements of the game does the World db touch? I've made a few tweaks to the frequency of player names and added nicknames to the txt file for example. I assume I can save and re-add them. I'm wondering what else may be affected by a re-import that I'd have to back up and reapply..

Thank you for the prompt response!

You'll have to recheck any setttings where you are using regions.

FYI you can re-import ONLY the schools database if you don't want to reset the entire world. It might be worth it to save/backup your world and try that. Reimporting the world would be more if there's issues with countries/cities/regions (may still help in some cases, but it sounds like the original issue is more about schools than anything).

Thank you! I'll see if this step works and check back with results

I reimported the schools database and it halfway fixed the issue. The schools page now shows the schools that were missing when I first converted over, which I imagine means there will be no issue going forward.

However, the players who were already drafted have their schools pointing to inncorrect places. Florida points to Florida A&M still, Texas Tech points to Tiffin, LSU points to Lubbock Christian.

I'm imagining that as my league started with a 2017 quickstart, there's some kind of ID mismatch with the current school database and the txt file from 2017. I changed around the ID numbers of two schools in the database that were next to each other and it fixed the issue of that mismatch.

If this is the case, and I have an OOTP 17 schools .txt file available, would I be able to open the files in Excel, perform some lookups to get the IDs to match, and save back as a .txt file, or would the transition of opening the database in excel mess up the format in a way that prevents it from working?

Shy of that, would replacing the schools db with a 2017 version also fix this issue or does the game need this specific schools database?

In theory that should work afaik. You'll probably just have to try it out and see (maybe on a backup copy of the league first) see if it does in practice though, without creating any issues.

I would guess this would introduce other mismatches.

Sounds good. I'll work on the lookup route first.

Keep in mind that we added some new information to the schools.txt file for this year to denote Juco schools. Older files should still import, but you will not get any juco schools if you import them directly.

I think I solved the issue! OOTP removed a number of schools for the deaf and visually handicapped in more recent versions, and also removed a few stray Canadian and Puerto Rican colleges. While no key was explicitly generated, it looks like somewhere behind the scenes, a key was generated based on colleges in alphabetical order, followed by high schools in alphabetical order.

Players' drafted school info is likely mapped to those IDs, which were slightly different than the explicitly labeled school ID key in OOTP 21. Using some excel functions, I was able to map everything together, taking the missing OOTP 18 schools data and adding it to the OOTP 21 schools txt file.

This issue doesn't likely exist for new leagues and is only a thing for for compulsive GMs whose leagues are a few versions old lol.
