Play-by-play Definitions?
Can someone, please, for the love of the gods, explain the MEANINGS of the play-by-play comments?
Look, I get the scoring, (i.e., 4-3, 6-2, etc), I even get the EV as “exit velocity.” But I cannot make heads or tails of the center section (i.e., 4D, 34S, 8LS, 7MD, and so on). How can there not be a list of definitions anywhere (at least not any that I can find)? It is driving this old man insane. Thanks, -ȸ |

Agreed, there should be a better glossary in the game
Those codes tell the location of the batted ball They are used on retrosheet. I'm not sure if they originated there or not. 4D = to position 4 (second base) and Deep. Here's a list https://www.retrosheet.org/location.htm |
