Inaugural Draft
In the first ten rounds, do people target certain positions or go for the best available player or a mixture of both? Thinking of targeting 'up the middle' always find in sports the spine of the team is important to me, so Catcher, Shortstop, Second Base & Centre Field. Views?

I go for best available with middle of the field being a tiebreaker. I also keep in mind that a corner outfielder with good tools can be converted to CF, and a good SS can be moved to 2B.

I always go for the most for sure thing that is NOT a two pitch RP for my first two picks.
For my next 8 picks I usually get all of the best position players that I can. Usually there is a pitcher or two that my scout says can hit. Ill pick up a few of those guys with my 10-15 picks if there are any worth the pick (45/45/45 potentials). Then I get pitchers with all of the rest of my picks. |

Here are my top prospects in the game default drafts
1) LHP Asa Lacy 2) SS Luke Leto 3) LF Spencer Torkelson 4) RHP Kumar Rocker 5) RHP Jared Kelley 6) SS Austin Martin 7) RF Austin Hendrick 8) RHP Emerson Hancock I have seen them all bust and I have seen them all boom lol. Last season my favorite player in the draft was C Ethen Hearns. He seems to be dookie this season. |

Yeah, I do something similar. I don't reach for SS or CF, but it's definitely something I weigh in my decision and use as a tiebreaker when it's close.

I typically alternate between pitchers and position players. I take the best player available in either role. As for drafting young guys versus veterans, that comes down to do you want to win now or later. The AI tends to take the best young player available so those guys go quick.

Talking fictional leagues here, my experience has always been there is a huge disparity in the number of quality P available over boom position players, so I will usually scour the pos players first to see what's on offer and what I need. Catchers and middle infielders first. Switchies at those positions who handle both LHP and RHP well (so many switch hitters are actually LHB who can hit a bit from the right side) above all.
Having said that, I'm a sucker for a quality LHSP because there is usually a dearth of them on offer and such a high percentage of the big bats are LH. So if one of those appears who has solid numbers across the board I usually try and grab them with one of my first few picks. |
