And we are allowed to do biographies. What more perfect than to do a baseball player?
I'd like to pick an historical player, but there are so many good ones, I just don't know which one I should do it on. Who should I choose?

Let me reiterate, historical player.
Then again, I guess Ross Gload's career could be considered history. But lets not turn this into a Gload debate, focus on the topic at hand people!

Aha, the Babe Ruth of the Negro leagues.
Interesting choice, I will consider this one.

Josh Gibson is an excellent choice. It gives you a chance to tell the "story behind the story" rather than just another superstar sports athlete bio. Tragically, Josh Gibson died at age 35 just months before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

Ty Cobb...he makes Albert Bell, Latrell Spreewell, Mike Tyson look like bedtime stories. That is if you like to writing about surly bastards.

George Toporcer and Johnny Podgajny. If you know what they have in common, then you'll know why I've picked them...

Originally I had Pete Rose in mind(Reds), but more thought into it, Koufax would be great to do.
But now, my first choice is Josh Gibson, someone I originally didn't even think about. But my only fear is there won't be enough resources(bookwise) on him.. and Koufax would be easier to cover.

You should write about Ron Thome... He's dominant.
Or Rodolfo Rocha, I could hook you up with the info on him.

Pete Gray, Eddie Gaedel...
Ooo,ooo...*jumps up and down*...Bill Veeck!! Bill Veeck! Well, of course he's been done, (Veeck, As in "Wreck") Steve Dalkowski!! Jimmy Piersall... ...all very interesting. I rather like the choice of Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell.

Branch Rickey. Not a player, but nonetheless revolutionized what we refer to as modern baseball. And not just because of Jackie Robinson. I think he essentially created the notion of minor leagues, among other things.

I would go with Branch Rickey, too. He invented the farm system, and was maybe the most influintial non-player of the 20th century.
John McGraw would be intersting also. By the way, are we gonna get to read this thing? |

Here's a couple ideas:
Joe Carter, John Rocker, Cal Ripken, Robin Yount, Reggie Jackson, Kirby Puckett, Nolan Ryan, George Brett, and just about any Hall of Famer. Some could be interesting, others more tame. Joe Carter would be my pick though. |

Uhhh! Everyone took my answers! So I'll second the motion to research either Branch Rickey or Rube Waddell. One was the baseball pioneer, the other was a nutball.
