HELP ... This Can't Be This Hard ...

I'm now dozens and dozens of hours in, and have yet to successfully create the game environment I'm trying to build. I've tried this via Fictional League Creation and via Historical League Creation and nothing I've done has worked, and it just can't be this hard ...

Here's what I'm trying to do

A 6-team league that starts in 1871, with only historical 1871 players.
Then, in 1872, the same 6 teams, with the historically correct 1872 rookies coming into the league. And so on.

That's it ...

The challenge is that the 6 teams are a mix of "real" and "not." So I want the Philadelphia Athletics in the league (who were around in 1871) and the Cincinnati Red Stockings (who weren't).

If I go historical, I can't remove 3 teams (1871 in reality was 9 teams). If I go fictional, I can't seem to prevent the game from creating fictional players.

I've tried many, many combinations of various settings, all to no avail. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would deeply appreciate it!

Why is it that the process of posting to a forum leads to a solution. Here is how it seems to be working in case anyone else would benefit

Start a Historical League with whatever options you want.
Once it starts, go to LEAGUE SETTINGS, and you can modify the structure from there.

It worked best for me if I retained an Amateur Draft, and 1872 saw a robust class of 64 players available for the annual rookie draft--which is exactly what I wanted.

Maybe it's like when someone lights a smoke at the bus stop, and almost invariably the bus shows up?

This.

I used to delete posts out of embarrassment when the simplicity of the solution would become apparent 5 minutes later...
but you come to learn you may as well own it.

Say it with me now: There. Are. No. Stupid. Questions. That's how you learn and stuff.
