New Alignment for 2020 Pandemic Season

Somebody brought this up on the another General Discussion forum that isn't getting many views so I thought I'd bring it up here.

Realignment

What if baseball thought this new alignment with an expanded playoff got really popular and stuck with it for a while (more than 100 games like this year full 162).

I started a save in Commish mode with the one league 3 division 10 teams each. 12 team playoff First and Second place autobids the rest wildcards. 1-4 seeds first round bye 5-7-7-7 format. Open to other formats

Looking for thoughts on the rest of the rules and things. I'm going DH. No reason to give Lucas Giolito the same amount of ABs as Edwin Encarnacion in a season. Sorry NL fans not budging on that.

What else? 154 game season? More playoff teams? No autobids? Different alignment then EAST CENTRAL WEST? Also need help on generating a schedule format that is playing Division teams heavy.

Would love to hear feedback thanks!

You could do an easy intradivision-only format that would essentially eliminate interleague play. Each team plays its 9 division foes 18 times (like the American and National Leagues did in 1962-1968) for a 162-game schedule.

I can't imagine a 162 game schedule since they are 5 weeks past the scheduled opening day. Perhaps play 8 home and away games in your own division then add some games against each team in respective league. The earliest start would be possibly July. I don't want to see home games in the north in November. Boston/Detroit/Chicago x 2/Minny/NY x2/Cleveland etc. If they can't paly at least 60 games, cancel the season.

Most of what I've seen is no home games, unless you're the Marlins, Rays, Rangers, Astros or Diamondbacks.

If games are going to be played in empty stadiums, then they will stay in warm-weather climes.

The real problem with a shifted season (instead of a truncated one) lies with the short off-season going into 2021. They will solve the bad November weather problem easily by not playing where there is bad weather in November.

I was addressing the alignment if it stayed permanent, which is a fantasy scenario to which he alluded.

Yes I'm looking at initial options for a Save game to sim for years to come starting last week of March. Not trying to discuss what MLB really needs to do in reality to have a season this year.

I like the only play teams in division since it was done in the 60s. Maybe 16 team playoff if that is the case? 5-7-7-7 re-seed each round

Not a bad idea. I'd probably rein it in closer to top two in each division reach playoffs for six-team postseason. Seeds 1 and 2 get a bye, seeds 3 and 4 host 6 and 5, respectively, for a 1 game or a 3-game series. Winners move on to face 1 and 2, and it's best-of-7 the rest of the way.

I'm old school so I'd probably go to the other extreme and just have the three division winners reach the playoffs. Best record gets bye into the World Series, other two teams play a three-game series at the No. 2 team's park.

I'm of the belief that it no longer makes sense to have separate National and American Leagues. Those ceased being separate entities a long time ago. I've been experimenting with the idea of lumping them into one 4 division league (I like large divisions). I moved the Rays to Montreal and added two expansion teams to make 8 team divisions. Currently post season is division winners only, but may add two wildcards later.

What is the best way to customize a schedule like this? Manually putting in every series through the whole year? If that's the case I'm dropping at least 6 teams haha

Go to the Mod section and ask someone to create a schedule.

Having a custom schedule creator would be worth $40 to me.

This is a great format too. I would like this with less games and expanded playoffs. Would probably keep TB just add Montreal and Mexico City in year two.

That's the tricky part. I used to do some schedules back in the day, but GMO is back, and he's better at this kind of stuff than I was. Maybe put in a request on the schedule board and he or someone else could tackle it.

I'm intrigued by putting one together at some point, but making a schedule can be aggravating and I'm not ready to do that right now. And I'm in the middle of my own OOTP project right now, and I'm reluctant to set that down.

Would put the Central Teams in AL. Centraleast Teams in nL. Also could do a Great Lakes AL and rest in of Teams NL.
