adding Negro Leaguers to Hall of Fame?
I'm playing a regular league with this year's rosters, and I'd like to have Negro Leaguers like Josh Gibson, Oscar Charleston, Martin Dihigo in the Hall of Fame.
I can search for them and find them, and I can click on the "Induct Player to HoF" function in the Actions drop-down ... but the player does not appear in the Hall of Fame: no plaque is created, and they're not listed in the "Sortable HOF" function. The player's own page says he's in the Hall of Fame, but that's it. If I try to put an MLB player in the Hall of Fame (Gil Hodges, e.g.), everything works fine. So I suspect it has something to do with the fact that Gibson/Charleston/Dihigo never played MLB. Any way I can get them into my HOF anyway? Or is this just the way it is? |

All three are already in Cooperstown. That’s why you can’t induct them.

I don't think that's it. I tried to induct Buck O'Neil (who is not actually in Cooperstown) ... same thing. His player screen says he's in, but there's no generated HOF plaque, and he's not listed among the inducted players.

I imported them in 20, inducted them and same thing. They don't show up. Might have something to do with them not having any stats.

So technically, when you go to the HOF page, it only lists players in the Hall who played in that specific league. So they'd be in the HOF if you went to visit the Negro League page, but since they never appeared in MLB, they won't show up on MLB's Hall of Fame page. It's a weird quirk of how exactly we store and retrieve data.

OK, wait, so here's a weird question . Let's say I was really really intent on getting them into the HOF, does that mean ...
(1) I could go into the editor, "unretire" them, and add them to a current MLB roster ... (2) Make sure they got one AB or threw a pitch ... (3) Immediately retire them again after that game ... (4) NOW induct them into the HOF, and they would show up after all? |
