Vanilla MLB 2020 start: Shutouts are completely outta whack

As the title says, shutouts are completely off the charts in the standard MLB 2020 start. I started my league one or two days before actual Opening Day and made no changes to any settings like total stats modifiers and so on.

However, through the current day of the schedule, there have been 34 shutouts in MLB. The actual 2019 season produced all of 26 shutouts for the entire season.

What would people advise to use for "hook for starters"? Is -3 enough or do you actually have to crank it up to -5?

It's not like the hook is the issue either. I have seen a few guys throw 140 pitches in complete games. It's like 1965 out there...

-5 is the default. I would imagine that would help keep this number down (and yes, that's what I use as well). I only have anecdotal evidence, though. I've noticed on a handful of occasions that the starter will get pulled at some point in the ninth after giving up a baserunner or two in the inning.

Are you looking at team shutouts of individual shutouts? The Dodgers as a team had 18 shutouts last year per baseball reference, but just one individual player shutout. My 2020 had 130 team shutouts and 33 credited to a pitcher.

The more I think about this, the more I believe you need to move the hook to -5.

Talking complete-game shutouts here.

I have noticed this issue also. I have Pitcher stamina set to normal, and am wondering if this my be the reason I am seeing so many shutouts.

After everyday, there are emails in my inbox talking about which players had shutouts that day.

I haven't fiddled with the game in years and maybe I'm just blind. Can I reduce global pitcher stamina somewhere?

More on what Slugga said, set it to low. i had an RD league set to Low without realizing it and great SP like 3 Finger Brown & Bob Gibson had 1-2 CG SH all season vs 9 or so set to Normal.

Unless I’m mistaken, what you are referring to only impacts how long it takes pitchers to recover between starts.

To impact a pitcher’s ability to go deep into games, you need to change the modifier on the right-hand side. It is set to 1.219 at default settings.

I have it set to normal in most of my leagues and I see high CG numbers. I have never once changed a modifier in 11 version of OOTP. Now maybe setting the historical modifier affects that but my MLB is in 2033 with 2019 + plus modifiers and they too have high CG #'s.Pitcher Stamina is set to 1.000. My Stamina is actually Low in this league. I'm confused.
