The Legend of Don Newcombe.....

As absolutely dominating as he is in iron tournaments, I have a question:

Is Newcombe best off as a full time DH and just throw someone else out on the mound? As good as he's been on the mound he has been even better at the plate. In DH leagues someone else hits for him when he's on the mound.

Thoughts?

I DH'd him when I was doing Iron tourneys.

Most cost-effective DH in the game, if you got him before the price took off.

I'm still a McKay fan, tho.

I believe I paid something like 600pp, grabbed him a week after release.

I just got Newcombe in a pack this morning. I think I'll sell him since the mission he is in is too expensive!

I pulled my first Newcombe card from a pack today. For his first Iron tournament game, he pitched a three-hit shutout and had three hits. Unreal.

Which rotation spot do you all give Newcombe, since there are some better iron pitchers? (eg Briles, Root)
Don't like his stuff and movement.

So I tend to go with him as DH only. Maybe a #5 Starter at best. But rather not.

Newcombe is now at 900-1000 PP.

What about Pujols as DH over Newcombe (vL)?

Newcombe can have a 52 position rating if trained at 1B.

I am again leaning towards Pujols bc of his ability to hit the occasional HR.
Newcombe has no significant added value to me thus far.

I use Newcombe untrained as 1B v RHP in the non-DH Iron and he's plenty fine (Vic Power as the 1B v LHP), and Newcombe has single handily won me tournaments. In Iron-tournaments it's a no-brainer to use Newcombe, even if it's just as a starter and a pinch-hitter.

Agree playing him at 1B vL at times.

There are better (pure) pitchers out there for iron tourneys.

No rating. What about errors, since he is not able to "learn" 1B through tournaments?

Do you have stats for Newcombe at 1B?
Wondering about his defense there.
