Elysian Fields
Just a thought for any designers out there who might want to take a crack at ELYSIAN FIELDS.
In my alternate history league, the Hoboken site of the Elysian Fields -- where the Knickerbockers and other NY and Brooklyn teams practiced and played many of the game's first contests -- is preserved as a Hall of Fame and baseball heritage site. Complete with the concept of a special-use ballpark on the Hudson River (Chelsea/Manhattan skyline background). I envision the park as 25-35k capacity, old-style construction -- maybe with Tiger/Comiskey-style upper deck supported by poles. Looking at Yankee Stadium, I think the same orientation would make a RF water (Hudson R.) shot possible. I play the park (Heritage Field? Knickerbocker Park?) as special-use -- for some in-season subway series, maybe an annual July 4 DH, milestone All-Star Games, etc. -- kind of like a more playable and relevant version of Doubleday Field but in the city where the sport emerged. In my league, three NY teams survived, so its kind of like a fourth New York ballpark, with a fun idea for view that developed around the one-time farm field along the river. |
