Prospect Ratings Drop After Importing from OOTP20
Anyone else noticed a significant drop in prospect ratings across the board for all teams in a game when importing from OOTP20? Here's just one team in particular:
OOTP20 International: ![]() OOTP21 International: ![]() OOTP20 Minors: ![]() OOTP21 Minors: ![]() Seems the best young players in international and low minors are taking sizable hits to their skill ratings and potential across all teams. |

it definitely can happen when converting from one year to the next. Especially when code is rewritten

So, it sounds like if you want to play a long-term dynasty league in OOTP you should never purchase a new version. That seems unfortunate.

Should probably report this as a bug if you did not already.

If you're playing with scouting on, it's quite possible that it's simply your scout re-ranking players in the new version. We don't actually touch anything (or hardly anything) in the actual player ratings when you update versions, but we made a lot of changes to scouting.

The reranking must be happening during import, then, because in this case I just did the import and haven't played a single game or done anything to initiate a scouting event.

It looks like some of the players in question are extremely young there ratings fluctuate a lot even with the same scout over the course of a year.
Only way to really tell open up player editor in both versions of the game and see if anything has changed. If it's the same then it's just the scouts impressions that changed not the actual player. Now if you go into the editor and ratings are completely different for the same player between 20 and 21 then it could be an issue. My instinct would lead me to guess that the players ratings in the editor will be constant it's just the scouts interpretation that has changed. Unless you are playing with 100% accuracy turned on. There is always a fog of war when it comes to your scout. Ratings don't matter if the stats tell a different story eventually the ratings will catch up. |

I went back to the OOTP20 and had my scout reevaluate all of the young players that dropped in 21 and his opinion didn't change. It only apparently changed once the players were imported into OOTP21. Keep in mind that between OOTP20 and OOTP21 not one game has been played.

Looks like the underlying ratings didn't change that much, however, the resulting stats at the MLB level are zeroed out. Possibly that is causing the issue?
