what will happen when I update?

im on Mac and when I drag the icon to the aplications folder it asks me if I want to keep both or replace with newer version of OOTP. when I installed the final version of the game over the beta; my beta saves were all gone and I was asked to re licence the game, that has never happened to me before. so will this now delete my saves, backups and all my mods ive downloaded?

can someone please reply I don't want to instal and loose all my files
