Contract Question (Minor League Option)
So I'm a believer in trying to nab a bunch of ML players late in FA to fill in my minor league system where need be. For example, in 2021 guys like Marwin Gonzalez, Melky Cabrera, Rick Porcello give me some nice depth, hopefully create a decent W-L record for morale.
When I sign them, the contract type is "Minor League with Major League Option" and usually give them like a 1.5-1.7 contract, with no intention of calling them up to the big leagues. But when I go to my fiance page (It's currently only April 5), their full salaires are coming up on my payroll, even though they aren't on the ML roster. After the 30 day option window, will those salaries be removed if I don't call them up to the ML roster? I just want to make sure I'm not actually paying all these guys that much, going to affect my bottom line. Thanks, |

I could be wrong, but that should just be accruing (projecting) the expense. If you never promote them, it should fall off as it would no longer be a possibility for that expense to be realized.

So I've now past the 30 day option window and it doesn't seem like any decided to test FA, but they are still on my financial list. I would hope at the end of the season those fall off the list like you are suggesting. Anyone else got any idea?

It should actually force them to be a free agent. Are you sure you’re past the 30th day pf the season? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Right? Sorry if this is confusing, but feel like it's an important thing. |

Hopefully someone else can independently confirm this.
In a quick test I ran, I signed a player (not a very good one) to a split contract. He did not opt out of his contract and I believe I did carry the expense the whole season. At one point, I was going to release him and it said I was going to eat about $560k in salary. (This was in June. The original contract was $850k). That's not how it's supposed to work; he should only be paid that sum if he's on the major league roster. |

1. It’s a bug 2. At the end of the season, if the player was never called up, maybe that money gets subtracted from your total? It shouldn’t be that way, but maybe that’s how it’s done? |
