Scouting Tips and Tricks

Hey guys,

Haven't really seen another thread like this but if there is one, please point me in the right direction!

I thought it would be smart to get a thread going where people can share some advice/tips/tricks/strategy on scouting in 21. Are you using the "Scouting Priorities" feature? Do you request scouting reports on guys in the draft pool? Do you favor ability or tools in your scouting director? What's your scouting budget set at?

I feel like there are a lot of different theories and ideas to be shared, and I'm always looking for help

One thing I've noticed unlike previous versions is right now I don't see huge swings between OSA and my Head Scout. In 20, I feel like I saw OSA give a 3-4 starts in potential and my head scout give them 1, or vice versa. Maybe I need a better scout, or OSA is getting better?

I haven't gotten too far into the scouting priorities component, but for the amateur draft I've been creating a specific shortlist for individual draft years. I'll then add players that stand out to me (usually 80-100 per class) based on certain tools/ratings and have my scout do reports specifically for those players constantly for about a 2 month period leading up to the draft. You can mass select within the watchlist and it helps me narrow down my draft targets. They're usually High/Very High come draft time.

After the draft is done, I turn my scouting efforts to my prospects in anticipation of the trade deadline. Offseason I focus on scouting major leaguers and prospects exclusively. I haven't done it yet, but I might try to ramp up minor league scouting in advance of the Rule V draft.

I always favor tools and try to get my budget as high as possible. Having an elite scout is also a priority.

I change the setting for when the amateur draft pool gets revealed from the default 30 days to 70-75. I don't have to do any extra scouting work on amateurs leading up to the draft an alot of players in the draft pool end up having high scouting reports by time draft comes around. Not realistic really to only reveal draft pool 30 days prior. Scouts have more time than that to scout in real life.
