Suggestion for Cato:

Just been playing around with the V5 util, and it's another great job as usual. Thanks for all the work you've done. I literally couldn't run a V5 historical league with no Cato utility after what it did for my OOTP4 solo play!

I'm curious, would you consider including some functionality to show the .txt files from OOTP for each player on their history pages? I'd really enjoy seeing those files linked from my history pages for each player and formatted in the same style as the pages from your utility. I think it would really help flesh out the player pages and give an even better representation of the player's career. Thoughts?

Oh, it's not dying. At first, I thought, yeah, okay, that shouldn't be too hard. I thought that I could just read the pxxx.txt file when creating my pages and stick it in. I played around with it, and decided to put it at the top, under the bio info and beside the Awards & Accomplishments section. So that there would be 2 columns, History and Awards & Acc., then Ratings, and so on.

Then I realized that that wouldn't work. The player number isn't unique over the course of many years, so histories would just get all messed up. The only way to do it is to read all the pxxx.txt files and copy them into the database and store them with the player's (always unique) playerid.

There are 2 problems with this, size and speed. The size of the database is already large and this will make it larger. This will also increase the time to import the data, as well as to create the pages. I'm going to implement it, test it out, and see if either of these are killers. I don't think they will be.

There will be an option to use player histories or not.

Jeff,
I was just wondering what new features, if any, you had planned for OOTP History this year?

EDIT -> Forgot to say besides what you have added already

Thanks Cato, that rocks! I'd really say at this point your utility is developing a ton of options, all of which add creation time/size on the finished product. It's probably best to make them all optional, but a lot of us stat freaks don't care if our pages take 10 gigs and our computer needs 6 hours to create them. But it's great that you're being considerate of those who just want the bare-bones product. With the improved in-game almanac though, it's all the added features you've created that really set your utility apart, and I turn everything on I can.

I'm open to any suggestions, like the one in this thread. (Which, BTW, appears to be working. I'm going to test it on a long-term league now.)

I'm going to look for ways to use CommishJoe's new Schedule exporter. Maybe something like this.

I want to add stuff like the number of times a player won Player of the Game, Week, Month. Maybe list each number in the Awards & Accomplishments section.

I'll probably think of some other stuff, but I think most of the major stuff is in there.

The schedule exporter is close to something I've been looking for....something that has longest winning or losing streak, most runs in a game (or inning), most hits, doubles, triples, etc. Largest margin of victory.
Longest game (# of innings)
Most errors in a game

What I'd really like to see is this stuff in leaderboard format so it persists over time.....

One thing I would really love, and I know this would not be simple, is for a Rookie leaderboard.
