Walkers news: Nola finds new home in Detroit
Since 2018, Aaron Nola has sat at the top of the rotation of the St. Louis River Walkers.
And while he has remained among the best in the business, the now 31-year-old Nola has seen a drop in his performance over the past three seasons. So when he asked for a contract worth $20 million plys a season for multiple campaigns, the Walkers decided to balk. The result was the former Cy Young winner inking a five-year deal worth $107 million with the just crowned World Series-champion Detroit Wheelmen. The fans are not happy, but in some ways Nola was maybe the Walkers' third and fourth best starter in 2024. Hanging on to him for a hefty price tag through 2029 did not seem worth it. |

Walkers news: Bregman signed to minor-league deal
For some reason, Alex Bregman got through the entire offseason without signing a contract, so when the River Walkers offered him a minor league deal with the chance to upgrade should he make the big club he grabbed it.
The 30-year-old Bregman spent last season with Cedar Rapids where he hit .262 with nine homers and 50 RBIs in 154 games. For his career, Bregman has hit .267 with 115 homers and 569 RBIs. He began his career in the debut season of the River Walkers in 2018. He hit .269 with 10 homers and 70 RBIs that season. Bregman was traded to Milwaukee in the 2018-19 off-season. |

Walkers news: Honeywell out for the season
So much for the St. Louis River Walkers big free-agent signing for their pitching staff, Brent Honeywell will miss up to 11 months after undergoing elbow ligament reconstruction surgery on his right arm.
Honeywell pitched three innings and didn't give up a run in his lone outing for the Walkers. But he left the game complaining of pain in his elbow and the news was as bad as you could imagine. |

Walkers news: Blockbuster deal sends Bregman and Toglia to Detroit for RHP Medina
In need of a top three in the rotation starter after losing Brent Honeywell for the season with an elbow injury, the St. Louis River Walkers pulled off a three-player deal with the defending Mississippi Baseball League champion Detroit Wheelmen.
The Wheelmen will go at least the first three months of the season without 2024 American League MVP, third baseman Darren Miller who is out with a partially torn labrum. Recognizing that need, the Walkers offered up Alex Bregman, a long-time starter in the MBL who agreed to a minor-league contract with major league incentives. Also heading to Detroit is outfielder Michael Toglia. Considered a future force in the Walkers lineup following a freshman campaign in 2023 where he won a Silver Slugger and fell just short of Rookie of the Year honors, Toglia struggled with injuries and at the plate in 2024. His defense also appears to have detoriorated as he is now considered a well-below average outfielder and he has not shown enough potential to be considered a full-time first baseman. In return, the Walkers received 28-year-old right-hander Adonis Medina who is expected to take over the No. 3 spot in the team's starting rotation. A year ago, Medina went 10-6 with a 3.14 ERA in helping Detroit win the MBL World Series. For his career, he owns a 46-46 record with a 4.23 ERA in 176 games. Toglia hit .257 with 13 homers and 41 RBIs in 71 games with the Walkers in 2024. For his career, he is a .281 hitter with 56 homers and 146 RBIs. Bregman is a career .272 hitter with 139 homers and 664 RBIs. |
