Aroldis Chapman - YOU SUCK!

Please tell me I'm not the only one getting the worst pitching performances from Aroldis Chapman. A 94 ovr Diamond RP should not be performing as poorly as he does for me. I've had him at MR and at Setup. My closer is Kirby Yates and my Bullpen ERA was top 2 last season.

Not only did Chapman blow Game 7 of my Diamond Leauge Division Championship last season, he's already lost 2 games in this new season (which is now like 5 days old).

Anyone else as frustrated with him as I am? Don't wanna sell him because of his upside, but he's killin' me here!

Sometimes players don't perform as well as they should.

Sometimes they do better.

Ahh, the game of baseball. One player goes from a 6.2 WAR season to a 0.2 WAR season the next.

Maybe it's your catcher?

Chapman's control was an issue when I had him. Plus the RH batters seem to hit him well in my experience. Yates is a good choice for a closer.

Live Vazquez and live Yates are both candidates for that. Vazquez if you have an elite D infield, Yates if you have an elite D outfield. I've since moved away from live cards, but that's what I recall.

I personally believe that low control makes great pitchers extremely inconsistent. In other words, a great reliever like Chapman will go through stretches where he is decidedly not great.

Also, gotta watch the splits on the lefties, since they're always going to face more than their fair share of righties.

My 97 OVR 2014 Chapman (128/85/34 STU/MOV/CON) had 2 pretty good years, 29/31 saves and 35/39 saves. This year he started 3/5 with a 5.19 ERA in April so I've moved him out of the closer role for this year and putting LIVE Yates in that role instead.

Yeah watch out for those blue-blue-orange relievers. The walks get out of control fast. I have him on one of my Diamond League teams and he's been relegated to a simple middle relief role. No high leverage situations for him. Always around 9BB/9.

I used live Josh Staumont on my Royals theme team. 128 stuff, 60 ish movement, 14 for control (now up to 20 or so). He worked well in silver, except for the 14 bb/9. He was fun to use because you never knew what was going to happen. A number of times he struck out the side after he walked the bases loaded for the extra PP of leaving the bases loaded and striking out the side!

Just a rather meaningless digression to an old thread (sorry).

My last two diamond pack picks were both Chapman.

Away, foul beast, I already have a control-issue closer.

Quick-sold the second one. Chapmans are currently glut on the market.

I've had decent success with him this season as a lefty specialist. 8-1 W/L, 2.31 ERA, 11.8 K/9, 1.2 WAR. Has done well backing up a Giles I'm using as 8+ setup (who I notice is horrible against LH's).

BUT... used for any more than that (which can happen if the bullpen is roasted), has issues with command and against RH's. 5.1 BB/9.
This is in a Gold league if it matters- but one that's fairly stacked though.

Still in GOLD leagues with 100 Perfect Cards? Try to challenge your team & managing skills in higher leagues. Why would one want to hang around lower leagues beating teams up every year? All I really complain about are worthless ratings which dont matter much.

If you spent more than three seconds before complaining about what you perceive as right and wrong, you'd have seen that the team lost 88 games.

They lose 88 every year, because that is quite literally the only fancy card on the roster. It's the red-headed stepchild of my teams, which just lingers while I occasionally open packs for it. All of this was *not* visible on the screen, but maybe you would like a bit of context. Or maybe not. Probably not.
