injury txt clarification

i just wanted to see if i was understanding the injury.txt file right; i was adding a few injuries myself.

for example: strained forearm,5,7,14,2,3,7,,

5=% effect (which i understand to be how much effectiveness a player will lose if he is day to day with this injury)
7=minimum number of days out
14=maximum number of days out
2,3,7=injury occurs diving for ball, throwing, pitching

254 is a season ender, 255 is a career ender.
at least thats what the other threads i looked at said.

oh, are commas necessary after the last number, or are they just placeholders?

the commas would be necessary.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

hey Blackrussian after you are done, will you upload your text file to BBSC or something like it?

I'd like to check it out if you really put alot more injuries in there.

Here's some suggestions
all of these are Career enders (death)

Vertigo (Nick Esasky)
Bright's disease
Suicide
Car Accident
murdered
Turbercolosis (Addie Joss)

Just curious, but why would you want to incur an injury?

for realism in historical leagues...like WWI...for instance...I will use this great editor koohead showed me to make an Army service "injury" say for Grover Cleveland Alexander

or for my 19th century leagues....many players died of illnesses we don't care or fear anymore...Bright's disease, staph infection, pneumonia...so it would just be more accurate and surprising if players actually died in my league...like who saw Ed Delahanty [plunging off Niagara Falls, Addie Joss succumbing to turberculosis...

Then when I hit the 30's and 40's WWII is a biggie, and I will change the injury Bright's disease, with say...car accident...

Just would like to see that editor have a % of how often the injury "occurs" that way Army Service would be manually entered if I put 0% of it happening...and car accident would be say 2%

i will pass it on, prolly this weekend.

i dont have anything too crazy in there, mostly adding some modern injuries that seem to be more common. like the torn labrum. seems to be in vogue these days. i added a few off the field things that could potentially end a career (like a car accident), but mostly it was on field stuff.

I actually put Vertigo in mine because of Nick Esasky. I also have two different gunshot wounds, one minor and one fatal. I have peripheral neuropathy, cancer, glaucoma (see Kirby Puckett), some mental conditions like manic episode, severe depression, etc. and some that are just for fun, like jock itch and spontaneous combustion. Having some variety makes the injuries more interesting and can make for some interesting stories like a guy diving for a ball and his career ending due to spontaneous combustion. Actually, I deleted spontaneous combustion from mine because it happened more than once.
