Inter Conference / Inter Division Games

In setting up the options for an 82 game schedule, I noticed the default is 3 inter conference games and 2 inter division games. What does this mean? I would think there would be more games between teams in the same conference but a different division compared to teams in an entirely different conference.

3 games against each of the teams in the opposite conference, 2 games against each of the teams in the same conference but a different division, then whatever's left over is played within the division.
