Service Time Manipulation?
So with each new version I create my fictional league using the current season and its rosters as a base. I then add six more teams to make a 36 team league. To have enough players I import historical teams and also many historical players. At the same time, I delete the current version of several of many favorite players who are on the wrong side of 30 and import them as rookies (Verlander, Pujols, Cabreera, McCutchen to name a few) so they can start anew as young players with their whole careers ahead of them.
The historical players I import are all time legends. I import them as rookies so of course they have no service time. The AI was smart enough to make Christy Mathewson the #1 overall pick in the Fantasy Draft. Many others were first round picks, and all were drafted in the first five rounds. The draft is done, rosters are set and it's Opening Day in my league which I set for April 1. Much to my surprise, many of the HOF historical players are in AAA. As they are rookies they have no service time. It's hard to make the case that the guys on the big league club are better. A few here or there need a bit more development, but the others are the star players you'd expect. Is the AI manipulating their service time to get an extra year before these players can be free agents? Does this version have AI that is that clever? We'll see how long these guys stay in AAA. Mind you this is not a complaint. If these teams are manipulating the service time it will go to show just how realistic the AI has been made in this version. Watch this space.

AI caring about service time was listed as a new feature this year.

i've seen this while simming too... Vlad Jr spent 15 days in AAA before being recalled - same with a couple other top prospects.

I don't mind. We want the game to be as realistic as possible.

The season is underway and oh yeah, big time manipulation as guys have been called up, but not before a token amount of time at AAA. That's real, kudos the developers for taking this into account.

For true realism, there should be story lines complaining about this "exploitation" of players who will have to endure an extra year of pulling down only a couple of million dollars of salary.

It's real and relevant. It's the little things that make a sim great.
