Random Debut League issue

So I did a historic league with random debuts, starting all the way back in 1901. Did the inaugural draft, got through half a season and I go looking for trade targets using Find A Player and the MLB Players list. There I find a number of very good players, Dwight Gooden and Adam Jones for example. They aren't on any team, but I can't sign them. There's no trade options or transactions option in their action menus.

I thought they might just be populating from the upcoming draft pool, but that wasn't the case. New draft pool came, they weren't in it and now into my second season with this, they're all still showing up on the MLB Players List and still can't be signed. They don't show up in the free agent pool anyways. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Gooden and Jones are almost certainly unsignable because in 1901 the color line existed. There's a check box to turn that off...look in Option or rules, if I'm not mistaken.
