what is special about live cards
Is there something special abou the 'type' of card?
Is a live card 80 rating better than unsung hero 80? I personally hate the live cards, there are so many, and they don't seem to perform very well.....rating INFLATION. if you went by ratings you would think the class of 2018 was the best of all time....50 players better than catfish hunter (or pick a top 10 star from any year) i am so sick of them that i just dumped they so i could enjoy my older cards |

Ratings are subjective to what you’re looking for, and can sometimes be misleading, yeah. The main advantage with Live cards is they are generally cheaper for their ability compared to Historical cards (but not necessarily better).
In OOTP 20 the Live cards will update during the season too, so that will be an extra dimension.

In a very broad general sense....an 80-something is an 80-something.
Look at the overall rating more as a generic way of placing the card into a rough category. More important are the individual ratings and how they help/not help the current game engine and your strategy. Example: you may have a pitcher with an 80-90 rating but with a very low movement. As a result, he will likely give up tons of easy scores against the superstar hitters (that everyone carries on their team) from the last last few decades. So he will likely end up as a player that won’t perform well. This is true for lots of the individual ratings. A pitcher with high stamina will pitch longer into the game, hence less usage of your bullpen. In this particular aspect, the old time players will have a huge benefit since they tend to have 100+ stamina vs. current Live card players. Since ~50% of all cards are Live cards and they tend to get pulled more often, the auction house will be filled with them and you see them more often. Some perform well (Treinen, Doolittle, Diaz, Osuna, ...) while others are easily replaced with superstars from the last few decades. Most of the strategies that people use (defense, speed, power, contact, ...) will benefit the players from the past, hence they tend to outperform their Live card counterparts. Having said that, you can still manage to get your Live cards to perform well and many have ratings that can fit in well for a team up to Perfect league (Outfield utility player with great defensive ratings like Robles, pitchers with great platoon stats like Doolittle or Medina, ....).
