Quick Question - "Hit & Run" Slider
I checked the manual but couldn't figure this out. In the "player strategy" screen, does the slider for "hit & run" frequency apply to the batter at the plate? Or the runner on base? The wording in the manual is ambiguous.

My assumption is that it's both batter and runner "as-if" the manager has just called a hit and run play. The slider on the player strategy screen would then be an indicator of how likely the player would be asked to perform a hit and run swing and the runner a hit and run base running maneuver.

Thanks, appreciate the response. And that makes sense for general team strategy. But I really hope for individual player strategy that is not the case. My desired frequency would depend on different attributes, whether it's the batter or runner we're talking about. For the batter, contact and avoid K would be the most important attributes. If we're talking about the runner, then speed and stealing ability are important (in case the batter doesn't make contact). So if I have a slow dude who is a good hitter, then I would consider setting the slider pretty high, if it is referring to the hitter. But I would want it set low, if it is referring to him as the baserunner in that situation. Know what I'm saying?

I have wondered about this, too. It's one of the gray areas of the game, where people who know the answer won't answer.

I think I see where your thoughts are and I certainly don't know for certain how it works. It sounds like a good idea.

I don't know with 100 percent certainty, but I'm willing to bet that the slider on the player strategy screen refers only to when the player is batting. The hit-and-run play is reliant on the skills of the batter much more than the skills of the baserunner. So it's only wise to use with guys who have high contact and it's most successful with guys who have high contact and high avoid K ratings. The baserunner's speed and baserunning ability are less important because as long as the batter does his job, the play will still be successful with a slow runner. If the batter doesn't do his job, even the fastest runner can be thrown out.

I agree it makes more sense to apply to the hitter. But the slider being right next to one for stealing bases makes me uneasy. It would be nice to get some confirmation.
