I just noticed that if you select AI Set Player Roles that there's a possibility of roles changing for players. I'm guessing this may not be a good decision at all times of course, because a player may be less suitable for certain roles.

Roster screen, action button, "AI Set Roles" at the bottom.

And as Savoie45 mentioned, there'll be some variation in it when you click it repeatedly - basically, if the player fits equally (or close to equally) well in more than one role, the AI will be a little unpredictable as to which one it chooses, rather than just taking the one that's best by a tiny margin.
