Keep or sell my Betts?
I started a team right before the end of the Entry Pool, which means everyone in my league has a very weak team right out of the gate. If this were right at the beginning of PT launch I could sell a Perfect or strong Diamond for ridiculous amounts of PP, but those days are gone. So - thoughts on what to do with my Mookie Betts I was lucky enough to pull?
Details: 1. I haven't and won't spend cash on this team. 2. I have no interest in selling Betts and then blowing it on packs. 3. I'm debating whether to sell Betts and then judiciously grabbing bargain Golds and Silvers in the AH, which might help me get more PP via achievements. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! |

I would sell him myself. I do not find his attributes that good for the price...

I'd sell him and go for golds and silvers in the AH. Filling multiple positions with solid players is more important than one spot I think given your situation.

Lesson #1 for me: make sure the end of the auction for Betts isn't in the middle of the night, aka 10 minutes from now. Oops. Well, I'll still get the 25000PP and that'll be enough to get started, but I suspect I could have done a lot better if I'd thought a bit more before leaping.
I'll post again after I've spent the PP, and folks can tell me if they think I made good (or dumb!) choices. |

I sold him for 63,000 in the AH and that gave me plenty of flexibility to build my team.
When you think about it, very good players cost between 10,000 and 15,000 PP's, so 4 of these most likely help a team more than one Betts

The AH is starting to calm down. This is a good thing overall even though I admit it was a major factor building my team.

I wanted to advise you to "Hedge your Betts" and keep him but I find myself agreeing with NYY #23 about the greater priority of "Filling multiple positions with solid players."

I kept my deGrom because I like him and I knew I would never be able to buy him. I think I would have done the same with Betts. Eventually, you will be able to get golds and silvers to fill out your team via achievement points.

Yeah, that's a big chunk of what got my backup team so good. Selling a lucky pull from my first bonus pack of Syndergaard for 50k PP really got me moving. I think a lot of teams with strong rosters took advantage of the first few days in the AH. And I absolutely agree that it's better now, and a lot harder to exploit, although it also is going to make things a lot more challenging. Anyway, here's what I did with my 22,500 PP. Some of these were value-based, some of these were probably just dumb bids on my part, a few were just guys I really liked. A few of these are from memory so the purchase price may be slightly off. A few were also slight but clear overpays just because I wanted the player that night in anticipation of May games. Paul Goldschmidt (91 OVR) - 4777 PP Edgardo Alfonzo (89) - 3499 Zack Wheeler (85) - 2500 Dick Ellsworth (84) - 2500 Bryce Harper (86) - 2250 Corey Seager (85) - 1250 Yasmani Grandal (83) - 1111 Eugenio Suarez (85) - 1000 Brandon Nimmo (84) - 1000 Carlos Correa (79) - 601 Joc Pederson (76) - 400 Yoenis Cespedes (79) - 399 Richard Rodriguez (74) - 199 Tommy Kahnle (72) - 150 Arodys Vizcaino (71) - 115 On the one hand, it's a more enjoyable team now! And I suspect in a RL month or so we'll see deGrom and Betts and Sale (and maybe even some of the historical Diamonds better than those guys) all going for 22,000 or so in the AH - and hopefully this team will generate more PP than the previous iteration did. I'd love to get them from pack-opening but I just can't justify wasting hard-earned PP when I can probably get a lot better value at the AH even if I'm hunting top players. On the other hand, I don't think this was a clear win. It's fun having a 100-rated card too, and even though my team is now easily the best one in my league on paper it's been performing poorly in the sim. Thanks, all of you guys, for sharing your advice on this one! |
