Grandal vs. Ramos

Of course, even when I manage to have two gold cards they both play the same position!!

What do "catcher ability" and catcher defense do anyway? does it somehow play into game calling, pitch-framing etc? or is it just defense on weak grounders/popups?

which one should i keep??

I have Grandal. He's hitting .079 after 18 games.

The catcher ability rating does indeed include pitch framing skills. So, the higher the better your pitchers will perform.

I'd sell both to be honest, I don't love either catcher. Get a cheaper catcher and use the PP from both to fill other needs.

Keep them both, put 1 on DH if necessary, these two guys will perform like Kris Bryant or Bryce Harper (3 - 4 WAR) and you will get not more than say 3000 for each of them.

Grandal is one of the best catchers available until you get into the insanely expensive diamond tier catchers.

If your team is weak in other areas, it might be a good idea to sell both and pick up a cheap defensive only catcher.

74 Molina live is a pretty good alternative to both Ramos and Grandal.

I've found that catchers have a really time living up to their batting ratings in this game. Maybe small sample sizes...

edit - and then I check out my team more carefully and notice that I have Omar Narvaez with a 140 OPS+ this year. But his defense is only 46 and my pitching stinks. I didn't realize that catcher defense improves pitching performance so it's time to move on from him. I also have Salvador Perez with a 10 OPS+ who I'm platooning with Narvaez and he has a 67 DEF.

I've had Grandal for two years and he never hit above .210. His lower rated backup hit better than he did both years.

I am going with Posey for that reason. I lose on power but have a pretty good defensive catcher that has some average to at least get on base.

I had Boone in the Beta and he was great.

Now, Gabby Hartnett is my starter pack gold. He was hitting .160 through May and he just went on a tear to be at .193 for the season.

I was thinking about selling him to improve a few positions, but he is a 92 in ability and he is based on a .344 season.

Now that he is showing his potential I'm glad I kept him. In the last week he is hitting .360 with 4 HR.

Jody Davis has been amazing for me so far. What a bargain at 155 PP. Better than any other catcher I've had.

I don't have a great pitching staff, but the starters ERA was 3rd out of 64 teams after last night.

solid bronze catchers are tough to find, IMO. salvy perez is the other one i can think of

I have Perez as my 2nd catcher. He's getting a defensive buff next week so I may go back to him. Shhhh!

Since I switched to Davis, my pitching has been much better. He's also hitting pretty well too with a 120 OPS+.

I’m jealous considering catcher seems to be the toughest position to fill. Way better than getting relief pitchers or 3b.
