Quick Question - Can you use 2 different versions of same player?

Sorry, but I haven't been able to find an answer about this. Is it allowed to have 2 versions of the same player in a team's lineup (like Ichiro 2001 and 2004)?

I think yes, but I liked the 2001 Ichiro so I did not bother with 2004 version. But the 2004 was not highlighted or red in the auction house for me, so yes, they can both play.

The devs have specifically stated that the same player cannot be used multiple times, whether its the same card or via different cards

That is the same player of the same year. There are 4 Ichiros in this game. 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2018. I really think different years can be on the roster.

Interesting. So same name players, like Johnson, cannot be on the same team?

I'm not sure if I understand, but same last name different player is allowed:

You just can't use two versions of the same player, like the Ichiro example.

I wonder if there are any players in PT with the same name that aren't the same player. For example, there was a Frank Thomas that played I think for the Mets in the 60's? and Frank The Big Hurt Thomas. I wonder how PT would handle that if both are in the game.

I'm sure they're using more than just first and last name as an identifier. It might be birthday, too. Or maybe they have a numeric code somewhere that says, "any card with this number is the same player as this card, this card, and this card"
