Do positional ratings transfer to next season?

Byron Buxton started the season with only a CF Positional rating, ZERO at LF. As the season went along and played LF he gained Positional Rating for LF. Does anyone know if this will transfer to next season or will he go back to ZERO Positional Rating for LF for the next season?

He will definitely carry over any learned positional rankings into the next season.

What happens if you don't play him at LF for the season, will he lose LF positioning?

No, I've not seen that yet and I've done this with several players over different positions.

I like that! It influences me to pause to actually peruse the individual cards that have varying prices instead of just looking for the cheapest of the same that I want.

What is the extent of this? Can a player match the best defensive position at another position or all other positions? Can Griffey Jr's 103 defensive rating become 103 at SS if you played him there long enough or is there some sort of generic cap at other positions? Could he be 103 at all 8 positions? Can a catcher like Jim Sunberg's 135 defensive rating translate similarly at another position?

No.

Each player is rated for Catcher, IF, and OF ratings. Generally, a player in one group will have poor ratings at the other two. So, ratings will transfer over within a group, but not between groups.

As an example, I had Duke Snider, a center fielder with ratings that translated to good CF ratings. I played him at LF for a season (or two, I don't remember) and his LF rating ended up better than his CF ratings, the reason being it's easier to play LF than CF. Had I made him a 1B, he would have had a lousy 1B rating due to him not having acceptable IF fielding ratings.

No. The Entry Pool does not count.
