Can you turn this option off once you have started a historical season? If so, where?

You change it in the options menu prior to the start of a game that you are actively managing. It will then be disabled for all games unless you enable it again.

i found that in 3 seconds, i did not confirm it is what you want, merely a proof of concept.

all i did: "2018 face site:www.ootpdevelopments.com" and it was first returned address.

check mod forum too, it's certainly around and likely multiple ways to get to same ends.
