Trading Players with Contracts

It seems to me that it is difficult to make a trade that results in a financial deficit for the other team. For example, in my current Red Sox sim I have Chris Sale who's a 4.5 star and on a friendly 15 million deal that expires after this season (2019). I'm looking to deal him to cut some $$$ but I can't make a realistic deal with any team. Either teams want to offer me another players that's worth more than him, or a scrub prospect. In real life, he would fetch a solid prospect or three at the very least. This dilemma has made rebuilding efforts very difficult in this game for me. Does anyone else have this problem?

**Btw I play on challenge mode so I can't change the AI.

Machado was just traded in nearly identical conditions. The Orioles got a bunch of players. Per my reading of BBRef, they got a 73rd rank (prospects, around 3rd round), 14th round, 23rd round and one undrafted prospects. In my OOTP, a 73rd rank isn't bad, (around 52/80), but some might not call it a top prospect. (The rest of the trade would be 20/80's) in my league. That's according to my reading of BBRef, so I'm not offering my opinion. Some teams would not have the budget so they won't make that trade. Other teams wouldn't necessarily have a player that is at the skill level needed. (I.e., the best they can offer that is lower than 60, might be a 45.)

I regard this as part of the risk one takes with that strategy. Only some teams will want him for just 2 months, and those few might have neither the money nor the players to trade. The player might also reject the trade. I try to trade players like that before free agency of the prior offseason when teams have the most money.

What were you offered?

You have to remember, the AI doesn't "know" players the way we (mostly humans) do. All the AI sees are numbers. Based on the numbers alone, the AI may view the trade as "not good" for whatever reason.

Did you just send a shop a player request. That will always be a 1 for 1. Best way to get your best deal is find the player you like the most and go to that teams trade screen and start adding prospects to the trade and see if a package of prospects fits your need.

Let me know if that helps.

Also if you adjust your teams needs and what you are looking for would help find players that fit your need.
